Job Description

 The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) at the University of Washington (UW) seeks a nationally recognized investigator to assume Directorship of the existing UW Nathan Shock Center for Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging (NSC). The Director of the UW NSC is expected to develop and implement a vision for research in an area related to the biology of aging and to maintain a vibrant research program funded by extramural sources that adds value and dimension to the

internationally recognized geroscience research program of the DLMP.

The candidate should demonstrate exceptional publication record and research accomplishments and ability to secure extramural funding. The DLMP will provide ample research and administrative support including generous start-up resources and state of the art laboratory space.

The candidate will also assume leadership of two DLMP research
programs intertwined with the UW NSC: the UW Healthy Aging and Longevity Research Institute (HALO) and the NIH funded Biological Mechanisms of Healthy Aging T32 Training Program. Additionally, the candidate will participate in teaching and mentoring activities in the DLMP Molecular Mechanisms of Medicine and Disease PhD program and the Medical Laboratory Scientist Master’s program.

Qualification

  • PhD or MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) with outstanding training and research
  • Experience in biology, medicine, or a related field (or foreign equivalent).
  • Expertise in research related to the biology of aging.

Applicants who want to engage in clinical care of patients must also meet the following requirements: 


  • Hold or are eligible for Washington State Medical License
  • Board-certified
  • In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services in biology, medicine, or a related field.
