About This Opportunity
The primary role of the position is to undertake collaborative research for sustainability assessment in broadacre, horticultural and protected crops using a life cycle assessment approach. The position is with the Centre for Crop Science of Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI). As a research-focused academic at Level A, the incumbent will be supported and guided by more senior research academic staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time and will work as a collaborative team, likely involving different centres of QAAFI and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Research
- Undertake life cycle assessment research of various technologies/approaches in broadacre, horticultural and protected crops.
- Develop/update relevant LCA models for different commodities/technologies.
- Undertake research activities related to related topics of sustainability assessment, including indicators and approaches.
- Document research findings in technical reports and scholarly papers in high-quality refereed international journals.
- Support the development of research proposals in aligned topics for external funding.
- Perform research-related administrative functions as required. Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.
2. Supervision and Researcher Development
- Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).
- Demonstrate personal effectiveness in supervision and the management of researcher development.
- Effective lead and develop supervisee performance and conduct by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.
- As appropriate, manage research support staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.
- Working to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedures.
3. Citizenship and Service
- Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align to the UQ values.
- Shows leadership of self through collaboration and active participation in priority activities for the unit.
- Provide support to other academic positions and unit operations as needed during other team members absences.
- Contribute to internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.
- Collaborate in service activities external to the immediate organisation unit.
- Begin to develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

About You
- PhD or equivalent experience in environmental science, engineering, agriculture or related fields.
- Technical expertise in developing LCA models and using LCA software such as SimaPro, openLCA etc., and familiarity with the life cycle inventory database.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Track record of high-quality, peer-reviewed journal publications related to sustainability assessment.
- Ability and willingness to work effectively with the staff and students.
- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.
- Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.
What We Can Offer
This is a full-time (1FTE) fixed-term position for up to three years at Academic Level A.
The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range AUD$89,616 - $99,426 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$104,851 - $116,329 per annum.
