1. Fully Funded PhD Position in thin film growth and dynamic processes
in thin film solar cells
Summary
of PhD Program:
The research within the division of
Solar Cell Technology is dedicated to fundamental understanding as well as
development of effective and potentially low-cost solar cells based on thin
film technologies. The focus is on materials containing chalcogens such as
sulfur and selenium, e.g. (Ag,Cu)(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) and Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTS),
but also perovskites, such as ZrBaS3 and lead-based perovskites. The division
has own laboratories in the Ångström clean-room lab and much of the research is
carried out in smaller or large collaborations. Part of the research in the
group focuses on the use of synchrotron-based methods to study thin film solar
cells.
Application Deadline: 2023-05-02
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Physics
Summary
of PhD Program:
The division of X-ray Photon Science is
world-leading in the use of advanced spectroscopy methods. This puts us in the
forefront in atomic-level studies of atoms, molecules and condensed matter.
This division includes the research programme Chemical and Bio-Molecular
Physics, which as host of the project has a special focus on the fundamental
properties and ultrafast processes in atoms, molecules, chemical systems, and
proteins. With X-ray scattering and spectroscopy, we reveal how electrons and
nuclei move and interact to explain how properties and function emerge.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computer-Aided Drug Design
Summary
of PhD Program:
The PhD position is available in Jens
Carlsson’s group in the computational biology and bioinformatics programme.
Jens Carlsson’s research focuses on using molecular modeling techniques to
study protein-ligand interactions. The Carlsson group uses structure-based
methods (e.g., molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations) to
understand protein function and to design ligands of pharmaceutically important
targets, often in close collaboration with experimental groups. The Carlsson
group is an international research team and is also part of the Science for
Life Laboratory.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Energy Material Physics
Summary
of PhD Program:
The project is hosted by the research
program Chemical and Bio-Molecular Physics at the Department of Physics and
Astronomy at Uppsala University. In this program we focus on understanding the
fundamental properties and ultrafast processes of matter at the atomic length
and time scales of Ångströms and femtoseconds. We have a leading position in
the use of X-rays for probing atoms, molecules and chemical and biomolecular
systems.
We develop and apply novel X-ray
methods and instrumentation and aim at revealing how the properties of a system
result from its electronic structure and dynamics with applications in
environmental, biophysical and chemical systems. We are in a lively and inspiring
research and teaching environment with a strong, and highly active PhD
representation. We perform experiments at synchrotron radiation facilities and
X-ray free-electron lasers combined with femtosecond laser spectroscopy at
Uppsala University.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in grid connection of renewable energy systems
Summary
of PhD Program:
The integration of renewable energy in
the electrical grid is increasing. One key difference for the grid connection
of traditional electric power production such as nuclear power and hydropower,
that dominate the Swedish grid, and renewable energy, is that the generator can
be synchronously connected to the grid.
For intermittent energy sources, such
as ocean, wind and solar energy, the connection has to be made using as
intermediate step with power converters. By grid connecting using power
converters, the inertia from the generator is not transmitted to the grid,
leading to an electrical grid more sensitive to differences in produced and
consumed power, causing frequency fluctuations.
Application Deadline: 2023-04-04
9. Fully Funded PhD Position in electrification of aircraft and airports
Summary
of PhD Program:
In this research project, you as a
doctoral student have the opportunity to contribute to research and development
for future electrified and sustainable transport system, with a focus on

access to safe charging. Electric aircraft for two passengers are already
available today. In the future, electric aircraft are expected to be developed
and designed for more passengers. Future electric aircraft can initially go
shorter distances than today’s traditional aircraft. Electric aircraft can
contribute to tourism, business collaborations, goods transport, etc. The
design development of electric aircraft is expected to take place together with
further development of battery- and hydrogen technology.

10. Fully Funded PhD Position in Conservation
Summary
of PhD Program:
Conservation is a multidisciplinary and
interdisciplinary academic field that spans the disciplines of
humanities/social sciences and science/technology. Conservation is about
managing cultural heritage and transferring resources from the past into the future
in a sustainable way. Research in conservation is thus about understanding the
past-present-future relationship. It also means investigating the role of
cultural heritage in the transition to a sustainable society, new perspectives
on renovation, reuse and recycling as part of a circular economy, and how
cultural heritage is valued, preserved, developed, used and consumed and why
and in what ways this is done, both conceptually and practically.

11. Fully Funded PhD Position in Immunophysiology
Summary
of PhD Program:
The unique ability of the human
endometrium to undergo monthly menstrual cycles of proliferation,
differentiation, breakdown, shedding and scar-less repair is fundamental to
mammalian life. Circulating and fluctuating ovarian hormones are known to
regulate the menstrual cycle, but the involved self-renewing mechanisms and
cellular contributions within the stem cell niches are largely unknown. In
fact, the localization and characteristics of endometrial stem cells still
remains to be defined, as does the functions of the immune cells, which at
times constitute up to 70% of the endometrial cellularity.
