Pfizer seeks a highly motivated individual to join our Groton, CT cryo-EM group in Structural and Molecular Sciences as an Associate Scientist. Our group uses a state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility to determine high-resolution structures of proteins, protein complexes, and other macromolecular assemblies to unravel molecular mechanisms and to drive structure-based drug design. 

Our collaborative, multi-disciplinary team includes colleagues with expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology. We are looking for a candidate with experience in protein purification and analysis who can purify functional proteins and protein complexes to support biochemical, biophysical, and structural studies for challenging active drug discovery projects.


Role Responsibility:
  • As a member of our high-performing team, you will produce and characterize high-quality protein reagents using various biochemical and biophysical methods to evaluate stability, conformational and oligomeric states, and post-translational modifications.
  • You will collaborate with colleagues within the group, as well as biologists and chemists from across Pfizer to provide support for internal drug discovery programs at various stages of development.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential, and job responsibilities will include preparing and presenting results in the context of multi-disciplinary project teams.

Key Qualifications:

Must- Have:
  • B.S. or equivalent degree in biology, chemistry, or related field.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with recombinant protein purification and related techniques, such as chromatography, SDS-PAGE, and Western blotting. Experience with a variety of proteins (e.g. soluble and membrane proteins; complexes) is a plus.
  • Exposure to biophysical (e.g. TSA, SPR) and structural biology (X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM) techniques is desirable, but not required.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and adapt quickly in a highly dynamic environment where multi-tasking is required.
  • Experience with data analysis and presentation software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Team oriented, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.


Nice-to-have
  • Experience with a variety of proteins (e.g. soluble and membrane proteins; complexes) is a plus.
