A postdoctoral fellow position is available in Dr. Mace's nephrology research laboratory. Our research focuses on developing therapeutic strategies for kidney diseases. The project requires animal studies in rats and mice (urine and blood collection, injection, organs collections) and maintenance of rodent colonies. It also includes basic molecular biology (PCR, cell culture) and basic proteomics experiments (western blot). The candidate needs to have a PhD in biology or related science field, within the last 2 years. Experience in nephrology is not necessary but a plus.
Job Responsibilities:
Under supervision of Principal Investigator (PI) conducts both specialized and complex research procedures and experiments, which include working with animal models.
Processes specimens and performs detailed manual tests. The range of test types and specialization will vary based on the size and type of laboratory.
Analyzes and interprets results for research samples such as cell lines, body fluids, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples, and record findings.
Operate sophisticated laboratory equipment. Use automated equipment and computerized instruments capable of performing a number of tests at the same time.
Follow good laboratory safety practices and comply with safety protocols. Demonstrates and trains other lab staff in proper use and operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.
Logs data and experiment results and discuss with PI.
Recommend protocol and experiment modifications. Develop laboratory protocols.
Uses independent judgement in applying or adapting scientific techniques. Documents results, recommends procedure/protocol revisions to address.
May prioritize lab assignments, delegate procedures, and train less experienced postdoctoral fellows and staff.
Develop data exhibits for publication or manuscripts, including writing or manuscript and creation of graphics and other diagrams.
Conduct literature review for experimental design of studies, manuscript preparation and grant proposal submission.
Required Job Qualifications:
PhD in biology or a related science field.
Enthusiastic, self-motivated, efficient and interacting well with others as part of a team.
Extensive experience in cellular and molecular techniques.
Experience conducting in vivo animal studies is required.
Experience in grant writing and submission.
Strong analytical skills and troubleshooting ability.
Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
Excellent organizational abilities in managing postdoctoral fellows and students.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Experience in nephrology.
