The Li laboratory investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms of breast cancer initiation, progression and metastasis as well as cancer stem cells. Specifically, the Li lab studies how specific subsets of breast cells respond to the initiating oncogenes and eventually evolve into cancer.
The molecular pathways that are examined by this lab include the Wnt-beta-catenin-LGR4, HER2/Neu, and JAK/STAT, and Bcl-xL signaling pathways. This lab also investigates the impact of pregnancy, obesity/diabetes, and antipsychotic drugs on breast cancer, and explores new approaches to breast cancer prevention. In addition, this group has recently begun to explore the involvement of immune cells in cancer initiation and invasion. The researcher will also be required to handle research animals in the lab.
Job Duties
- Designs and conducts research experiments.
- Handles animals such as mice and rats.
- Performs responsible research work that requires planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor.
- Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
- Will be trained to do animal work and work with CCM.
- Submits SRM purchases and complete Goods Receipts.
- Submits work orders to Facilities when needed regarding special repairs or cleaning is required.
- Participates in weekly lab meetings presenting status updates on projects.
- Develops and modifies computer programs.
- Selects and determines appropriate research procedures.
- Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment, inventory, and environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree preferred
- Cancer research preferred
- Animal handling i.e mice and rats
