Positions: The laboratory of Janice L. Brissette, Ph.D. is seeking two postdoctoral scientists to pinpoint key regulators of morphogenesis and disease in mammalian tissues. The scientists will develop projects based on mouse models in which the inactivation of transcription factors or signaling proteins disrupts developmental processes and yields human-like disorders. Processes disrupted in our mutants include the formation of stem cell populations and niches, the control of cell proliferation and survival, and the guidance of cells or their extensions to specific anatomic sites. The modeled human diseases include melanoma, vitiligo, short bowel syndrome, and Dandy-Walker syndrome. Using the models, the scientists will define the mechanisms of action of the mutated genes and their wild-type counterparts. In parallel, they will seek to translate their studies into a diagnostic assay for cancer. The starting salary for each position is $60,000 per year.
Institution: Our laboratory is part of the Department of Cell Biology of the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University. SUNY Downstate is an academic medical center located in New York City in the heart of Brooklyn. It is devoted to research in the life sciences, clinical care, and the education of physicians, biologists, and other health-related professionals. Required Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D., at least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal, and rigorous training in molecular, cell, or developmental biology.
How to Apply: Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, contact information for three referees, and a cover letter describing their past research projects and accomplishments to Dr. Brissette at janice.brissette@gmail.com.
