What You Will Achieve

The Pharmaceutical Sciences Senior Project Manager provides project management, planning, and resource forecasting leadership to Pharmaceutical Science Small Molecule project teams.

This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in pharmaceutical / technical development at the intersection of business and science. Collectively our team manages the project plans for all Small Molecule development programs, representing a portfolio of ~75 projects with total forecasted annual costs exceeding $500 million.



Through your work as a Senior Project Manager, you will directly contribute to the successful delivery of this portfolio and independently work across business categories and development paradigms. This position will also support the distinct Value Add and Multisource project and portfolio management activities.

How You Will Achieve It

In this role, you will be responsible for the generation, management, and maintenance of high-quality Pharmaceutical Sciences project plans to enable the operational/strategic delivery of new medicines to patients. You will leverage your advanced analytical skills and business acumen to present non-scientific data in a format that enables, and supports decisions related to project strategies and budgets.



You will be a practitioner and advocate for the advancement of the Pfizer RAPID planning and forecasting ecosystem, which will underpin your work (e.g., via Planisware) and enable integrated planning across the Pfizer enterprise. You will lead key strategic and cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives within the Project Management team and with key cross functional partner organizations.

In this role, you will drive decision making and outcomes at the interfaces of pharmaceutical / CMC technical development, project management, and budgeting / Finance processes to deliver new medicines to patients!



ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Integrated Planning Excellence
  • As a member of the PharmSci Project Team, the Project Manager partners with team members (e.g., PharmSci Team Leads (PSTLs) / Co-Development Leads, Candidate Planners, PharmSci. PGS and Supply Chain team members) to deliver program outcomes within the forecasted timeline and budget.
  • Independently manages a large and complex assigned project workload, proactively maintaining end-to-end project plans and associated forecasts; proactively identifies gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Navigates and guides PSTLs and project teams through the complexities of Pfizer's annual operating plan, quarterly forecast updates, investment buy-ups (e.g., DP3, PPIC) and portfolio governance reviews.
  • Leads cross-functional resource discussions/meetings with the Small Molecule S&T lines to ensure accurate indirect and direct $ forecasts.
  • Develops and interprets scenarios under tight timelines and with limited and often ambiguous input to support project valuations, acceleration proposals, alternative development strategies, and/or business development deals related to current or proposed projects.


Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Conducts analytics and reporting to support the regular reviews of project level forecasts with PSTLs, PharmSci Line Resource Estimators, and Finance to ensure high-data quality and completeness of forecast data for assigned projects.
  • Utilizes data analytics and reporting skills to extract and integrate data from various systems (e.g., RAPID data ecosystem, PharmSci portfolio systems, Finance and Procurement systems) to support project and portfolio level analyses.
  • Prepares and presents portfolio level resource forecasts within cross-functional teams and forums to quantify and explain forecast changes and key drivers.


Process Improvement
  • Leads strategic initiatives that improve or drive efficiencies into our direct and indirect forecasting accuracy and processes.
  • Leads and/or contributes to the development and improvement of our Planisware planning templates and resource algorithms that drive our direct and indirect budgets.
  • Applies Lean tools and methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma) to analyze and improve business process efficiency and robustness of outcomes.


Team Development
  • Ensure practices / resources are developed, current, and available to enable the rapid onboarding and training of our Pharm Sci project managers and propagate the ongoing accumulation of best practices.
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors new team members to allow for successful and rapid onboarding of new talent within the Project Management team.


QUALIFICATIONS:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Requires B.S. with 8+ years of experience or M.S. degree with 6+ years of experience in relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • High degree of competence and expertise in use of enterprise project management software, as demonstrated by 5+ years of cross functional planning experience with Planisware (or equivalent system).
  • Ability to establish and develop strong working relationships within a matrix organization and team-based environment.
  • Advanced data analytics and reporting skills with expertise in Microsoft Excel, Business Objects, and OnePager; familiar with use and application of data visualization tools and software (e.g., Spotfire, Tableau, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, in work products and associated communications.
  • Able to work under tight timelines, multi-task, and prioritize one's work to meet key deadlines.
  • Ability to convert large and complex datasets into charts, graphs, and PowerPoint slides, with explanation / insights clearly articulated.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Formal Project Management Certification (PMP or otherwise).
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification and experience leading cross functional process improvement initiatives.
